You cannot work your way into heaven.
The bible has made it very clear. God choses who gets saved and who doesn’t. This might sound strange at first, but God gives Jesus the souls that Jesus saves.
“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
John 6:37
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1 Peter 1:3
It is important that we understand that we are not the ones that tell God whether or not we are saved. God calls us. We are called. He stands at the door and knocks. We don’t go searching for Him. We are too wicked to even know to go search for God. It is not in our vocabulary. It is a gift of God.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;”
Ephesians 2:8
When Nicodemous spoke with Jesus, Jesus told him that salvation was like the wind; you don’t know where it comes from or where it goes. It is not up to you to choose to be born in the flesh, and it is not your choice to be born spiritually either. It happens from above. Take Paul for example. He didn’t ask God to appear to him on the path. God chose to do it. You don’t choose what it takes to get you into heaven. You can’t even hear His voice, unless He first calls.
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;”
John 10:27
Why is that important?
For me, one of the most important reasons is because it means I am at the mercy of the Almighty God! I can’t boast, but more than that, I have to live by His rules. Not mine. He is the boss!!
It forces me to call out to Him. It forces me to repent.
The good thing is that Jesus saves those that call on the name of the Lord!
for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.”
Romans 10:13
And He will never let you go!!
“and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
John 10:28-30
